What I Don't Repair

This is an example of a severely rotten fascia board, worn out shingles and a bent gutter. This example needs a new gutter, a new fascia board and the rafters or trusses made need repair work, too. A new roof wouldn't be a bad idea, either. When the needed repair work is this extensive, I have a trusted contractor I can refer to you. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Roof and Framing Structure

Terminology referring to common roof and framing structures. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Gutter Attachment

Terminology referring to common methods used to support and hang gutters. Spike-and-ferrule and bracket hangers are most widely used. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Sagging and Loose Gutters

Here is an example of a loose or sagging gutter. Often times, over time, gutter spikes or brackets will come loose. If the Fascia board behind the gutter is still in reasonably good shape, reattaching the gutter is likely doable. Spikes or brackets may be replaced or fixed and then 1" long self-tapping screws can be used for reinforcement as well. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Gutter Slope

One of the biggest problems with gutters is an improper slope. Slope refers to the the decline of the gutter as it aproaches the downspout(s). If this slope is off it will not drain properly no matter how clean the gutters are or how well they are attached. The only fix for this is to unattach the gutter at certain critical points and reattach so as to adjust the slope. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Downspouts, Elbows and Straps

Downspouts and elbows can get clogged and completely compacted with debris. With a little work, it is likely they can be cleared. Sometimes, unfortunately, elbows need to be cut apart to get them apart which means they will have to be replaced. Sometimes screws that are too long are used by installers or a previous contractor or Harry homeowner. These long screws will catch debris as it goes down the downspout and elbows and clog the system up even faster. These long screws should be replaced with 1/4" self-tapping metal screws. Also, over time, downspout straps can come loose from the house or structure and require remounting or reattaching. Not a complicated fix but it is important it is done right. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Downspout Filters

If you gutter system drains into an underground system, I strongly recommend installing downspout debris filters like or similar to the one pictured. Downspout filters will help keep debris from entering your underground drain system. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.

Splash Blocks

Splash blocks come in different colors, materials and sizes. Often times splash blocks are all that is needed to divert water away from your home. Raising a splash block up in the back is also helpful. If you have any questions, please contact RVA Gutter Cleaning.
